Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall to Presidents, 72-60

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 72-60, at home to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday evening.
 
Three Titans scored in double-figures, led by junior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) with 12 points. First-year Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) scored 11, while sophomore Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) had 10. Gage  earned her second double-double of the season as she grabbed down a career-high 12 rebounds. First-year Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered nine points, while junior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) had six. Cook added nine rebounds, while senior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) earned seven. Gage, Mathews, and Fromknecht each dished out a team-high three assists. Quinn also had a team-best two blocks.
 
Washington & Jefferson outshot Westminster 39.0% (23-59) to 36.5% (23-63). The Titans outrebounded the Presidents 51-35.
 
The first half consisted of five ties and 12 lead changes. Westminster (8-12, 3-10 PAC) was down 5-0, however it went on an 8-0 run and led 8-5 with 6:13 on the clock. Washington & Jefferson (13-7, 10-3 PAC) led 21-18 at the end of one. W&J was down 26-23 in the second quarter, however, it orchestrated an 8-0 run to take a 31-26 lead with 5:06 remaining. The Titans answered with a 7-1 run to take a 33-32 lead with 3:27 remaining in the half. The Presidents got back in front and led 35-33 at intermission. In the third quarter, W&J led 46-37 with 5:46 on the clock, however, Westminster mustered an 8-2 run to cut the Presidents' lead to 48-45 with 57 seconds left. W&J led 50-45 at the end of three. The Presidents' took their first double-digit lead, 60-49, with 5:06 remaining in the fourth and maintained it for the remainder of the contest.
 
Westminster will next travel to Waynesburg University on Saturday, February 4 with a 1:30 p.m. start time.
