WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Westminster College first-year
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca) scored a career-high 16 points, guiding the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 65-58 victory at Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) also scored in double-digits for the Titans with 15 points. Sophomore
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) and first-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered nine and eight points, respectively. Senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) added six points. Fromknecht and first-year
Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) both led Westminster on the glass with seven rebounds each. Junior
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler), Fromknecht, and Durbin each dished out a game-high three assists. Lyczek also had a game-high three steals.
Westminster outshot Waynesburg 40.0% (22-55) to 32.2% (19-59). The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Titans 44-30.
Waynesburg (12-9, 8-6 PAC) led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter. Westminster (9-12, 4-10 PAC) took a 25-23 lead, its first since the 7:14 mark in the first quarter, after Quinn made a three-pointer with 2:31 remaining in the first half. The Titans led 30-29 at halftime. Westminster maintained its lead for the remainder of the contest. The Titans took their largest lead, 47-38, when Lyczek made a pair of free throws with 1:28 left in the third. Waynesburg got within one-point of the Titans' lead three times, with the latest coming with 1:11 remaining in the game (57-56). Westminster, however, outscored Waynesburg 8-2 in the final minute to seal the win.
The Titans will next play at Thomas More College (KY) on Wednesday, February 8, starting at 5:30 p.m.
