NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 80-70, over Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action at home Wednesday night.
Sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) led the Titan offense with 16 points. Junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) scored 13 points, while freshman
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) earned 11. Junior
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle), junior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East), and sophomore
African Grant II (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) each earned nine points. Senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added eight points. Scott grabbed down a game-high 12 rebounds. Domenick tallied six boards, to go along with a team-best five assists. Vrabel also had a game-high four blocks. Sophomore
Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) pocketed a game-best two steals.
Westminster outshot Washington & Jefferson 47.5% (29-61) to 42.0% (29-69) and outrebounded the Presidents 46-37.
In the first half, Westminster (13-7, 9-4 PAC) led 17-9, after a 7-0 run, with 13:33 remaining. Washington & Jefferson (1-19, 1-12 PAC) answered with a 16-2 run to take a 25-19 lead with 6:42 on the clock. The Titans regained the lead, 26-25, after a 7-0 run and led 26-25 with 4:25 left. Westminster held a 35-33 halftime lead. W&J led 42-41 early in the second half, however, Westminster orchestrated a 10-2 run to take a 51-44 lead with 13:50 on the clock. The Presidents' organized a 7-2 run to cut the Titans' lead to 53-51 with 12:21 to play, however, that would be the closest W&J would get for the remainder of the game. The Titans had their largest lead, 76-61, with 1:50 remaining. Throughout the game, there were three ties and 11 lead changes. The final lead change occurred with 16:17 on the clock when Westminster led 43-42; the Titans would not trail for the remainder of the contest.
Westminster will look to win its fourth-straight game on Saturday, February 4, when it plays at Waynesburg University at 3:30 p.m.
