Women’s Basketball: Bethany Tops Westminster, 76-55

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Bethany College, 76-55, at home Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first half, senior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) made a layup at the six-minute mark to tie the game, 6-6. Bethany ended the first quarter on a 16-3 run, ending the first frame with a lead of 22-9. Bethany shot 58.3% compared to Westminster's 20% in the first quarter. Westminster cut the lead to single digits, 24-15, when senior Kyle Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) made a layup with 7:53 to go in the second half. With 3:43 left in the second, Bison forward Makayla Reynolds made a jump shot to bring Bethany up by 14 (34-20). The Bison took a 40-28 lead going into halftime.
 
Westminster started the third quarter making three three-pointers and Bethany led, 50-39, with 4:39 left to go. The Bison ended the third on a 12-2 run, and led, 62-41, at the end of three. Bethany went on to control their double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
Sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) recorded her third double-double of the season and the eighth of her career, tallying ten points and pulling down a team-high ten rebounds. Junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) scored a team-best 16 points, including a game- and season-high four three-pointers. K. Fromknecht finished with eight points and two rebounds, while sophomore Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) also scored eight points, to go along with four rebounds and a team-high four assists. Cook registered six points and a team-high two blocks for the contest.
 
Bethany outshot Westminster 50.0% (27-54) to 32.8% (19-58). Bethany also outrebounded Westminster 41-30, while also outshooting them from behind the three-point line, 42.9% (6-14) to 30.4% (7-23).
 
Westminster fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the PAC, while Bethany improved to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
 
The Titans are back in action Saturday, December 16 as they take on Pitt-Greensburg on the road. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
