Men’s Basketball: Scott’s Double-Double Helps Titans Top La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 80-70, over La Roche College in a non-conference road game Wednesday night.
 
The Titans, on a four-game winning streak, improved to 7-1 overall, while the Redhawks dropped to 4-3.
 
La Roche started the game with a 13-2 run with 16:34 on the clock and extended its lead to 24-8 with 13:32 remaining. Westminster answered with a 23-7 run, capped off with a three-pointer by junior Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North), to tie the game at 31 with 3:27 left. Junior Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) gave the Titans their first lead of the game, 37-36, after making two late free-throws and Westminster led by the same at halftime. In the second half, the Redhawks led 42-41 with 17:12 on the clock. The Titans, however, orchestrated an 18-2 run to take their largest lead of the game (59-44) with 11:30 to play. La Roche got within three points of Westminster's lead (69-66) with 3:09 on the clock, however, Westminster maintained its lead and outscored La Roche 11-4 for the remainder of the contest.
 
Titan senior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) registered his third double-double of the year, the 22nd of his career, as he tied a season-high with a game-high 12 rebounds and scored 15 points. Sophomore Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) scored a game-high 22 points, to go along with seven rebounds. He also dished out a team-best six assists, which tied a career-high. Senior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) also tied a career-high with six assists, while scoring 16 points and registering a game-high two blocks. Additionally, Vrabel tied with Armwood for a team-best two steals. Delorenzo added eight points, while sophomore Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) had seven.
 
Westminster outshot La Roche, 46.0% (29-63) to 41.4% (29-70), and outrebounded the Redhawks, 42-36. The Titans shot 94.1% from the free-throw line (16-of-17), compared to La Roche's 16.7% (1-of-6). Kane-Johnson (7-of-7) and Vrabel (6-of-6) led Westminster's free-throw charge.
 
The Titans return to the court Saturday, Dec. 9 for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest against Bethany College at 3:30 p.m.
