Women’s Basketball: Titans Drop PAC Game to W&J

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College, 63-50, at home Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster made the first basket of the game at the 9:20 mark with a three-pointer by senior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler). The Presidents responded with a 14-0 run and ended the first quarter with a 20-8 lead. The Titans cut the Presidents' lead to single digits (23-15) at the 5:21 mark of second quarter, but W&J answered with a 7-0 run and controlled the lead into halftime, up 35-25. Starting the third quarter, both teams scored only four points each in the first five minutes and 49 seconds (39-29). With 34 seconds left to play in the third, Westminster cut the lead to seven (46-39) off a Quinn three-pointer. W&J's Maria Lawhorne made a jumper with two seconds left, giving the Presidents a nine- point cushion (48-39) at the end of three. W&J started the fourth quarter with a made jumper at the 9:30 mark (50-39), and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
Titan sophomore Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) had a team- and season-high 10 points, to go along with three rebounds. Sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) tied for a team-high eight rebounds, had a game-high four blocks, and scored seven points. Senior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) also had eight rebounds, to go along with three points. Sophomore Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) dished out a team-high three assists. Quinn finished with nine points while pulling down three rebounds.
 
W&J outrebounded Westminster, 43-32, and converted 28 points off of Westminster's 29 turnovers. The Titans shot 40.5% (17-42) from the field, while the Presidents shot 35.9% (23-64).
 
The Titans fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while W&J improved to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in PAC play.
 
Westminster is back in action Wednesday, December 6 at non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
