Volleyball: Titans Fall to Thomas More in PAC Title Match

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Second-seeded Westminster College lost, 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 12-25, 23-25), to top-seeded Thomas More College in the 2017 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Volleyball Championship match Saturday evening.  

Westminster (26-6) outlasted Thomas More (29-5) in the first set, winning 28-26. The first set consisted of 12 ties. The Saints were up 22-18, however, the Titans continued to battle and pulled out the first set victory. There were 11 ties in the second set. The Titans got within one point of Thomas More's lead (20-19) after a kill by senior Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart). The Saints, however, won the set after winning five-straight points (25-19). Westminster was up 8-5 in the third set, however, Thomas More went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 17-8 lead. The Saints sealed the third set victory after outscoring Westminster 8-4 for the remainder of the set (25-12). In the fourth set, the Titans went in front early, 7-3. The Saints answered with a 6-2 run and tied the set at 9. Ten more ties would follow, including when the set knotted up at 23. The Saints clinched the set, the match, and the conference title following two-straight points.
 
Yoho and junior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) led the Titan offense with 10 kills each. Sophomore Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) added nine kills. Junior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) dished out a team-high 21 assists, while junior Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) had 10. Three Titans registered at least 20 digs. DeGeorge tallied a team-best 22 digs, followed by senior Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) and junior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) with 20 apiece. Yoho also had a match-high four blocks, while sophomore Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) and Dickson each had three blocks.
 
Saturday's match marked the third time Thomas More and Westminster have squared off for the conference championship. The Titans made their 16th-straight conference tournament fields appearance.
