CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Second-seeded Westminster College won, 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-25, 15-12), over third-seeded Bethany College in the 2017 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Volleyball Championship Semifinals Friday night.
Titan senior Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) led the Titan offense with 16 kills. Yoho surpassed Heidi Jorgensen (1991-94) for second all-time in school history with 1,329 career kills. Junior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) earned 13 kills, while hitting a match-high .522. Senior Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) and sophomore Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) added eight and six kills, respectively. Juniors Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) and Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) dished out 19 and 14 assists, respectively. Yoho and Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) each tallied a team-high two service aces. DeGeorge led the Titan defense with 24 digs, followed by Dickson (18), Moore (18), Barker (14), and Daniels (11). Sophomore Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) registered a match-high five blocks, while Yoho and Saxton each had three.
In set one, Westminster had an early 7-3 lead. Bethany (22-12), however, went on a 14-3 run and led 17-10. The Titans battled back and tied the set 19-19 after a 9-2 run. The set was tied once more (20-20) and Westminster was down 22-21 before the Bison ended the set with a 3-0 run to win the set, 25-21. The Titans took a 2-1 lead after winning set two, 25-20, and set three, 25-16. The Bison forced a fifth set after winning the fourth set, 25-15. In the final set, Bethany was up 8-5. The Titans however, orchestrated an 8-1 run and led 13-9. The Bison got within two points of the Titans' lead (14-12), but Westminster sealed the set and the match after Daniels found DeGeorge for a kill.
Westminster (26-5) will play top-seeded Thomas More College (28-5) on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. for the PAC Championship. Thomas More swept fifth-seeded Geneva College in the earlier semifinal on Friday.
