Women’s Basketball: Titans Open Season with 55-43 Win at Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won, 55-43, at Pennsylvania College of Technology in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
 
Titan sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) earned the sixth double-double of her career as she tied a team-high with 10 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, to go along with a game-high two blocks. Junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) also had 10 points for Westminster. Senior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) added seven points, while senior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) and sophomore Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) each had six points. Sophomore Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) and senior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Bennett also dished out a game- and career-best four assists.
 
Westminster (1-0) was up, 14-13, at the end of the first quarter. Penn College (1-2) opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run and took its largest lead of the first half (17-14) with 6:22 on the clock. The Titans answered by outscoring the Wildcats, 9-1, for the remainder of the half and led 23-18 at intermission. The Titans went up, 30-20, in the third quarter after Quinn made a three-pointer with 7:50 on the clock. Penn mustered a 14-6 run to cut Westminster's lead to 36-34 with 2:27 left in the third. The Titans, however, maintained their lead and led 43-35 at the end of the third quarter. Westminster remained in front in the final frame and had its largest lead of the game, 55-41, when Cook made a layup with 1:21 remaining.
 
Westminster outshot Penn 31.3% (21-67) to 22.6% (12-53) and outrebounded the Wildcats 49- 30.
 
The Titans are back on the court Tuesday, Nov. 21 for their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at Thiel College with 5:30 p.m. start time.
