Women’s Basketball: Titans’ Comeback Falls Short; Fall to Tomcats 69-62

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on the road, 69-62, against Thiel College Tuesday night.
 
Westminster fell to 1-1 (0-1 PAC) on the season, while the Tomcats improved their record to 2-2 (1-0 PAC).
 
Titan first-year Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) and junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) each had 13 points. Mathews added three assists to her resume. Sophomore Emily Fromknect (Erie, PA / McDowell) had 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Senior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) also had 10 points, while adding three rebounds to her night. Senior Kristine Kromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) had a game-high seven rebounds, while sophomore Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) added six rebounds to go along with a game-high five assists.
 
Thiel started the game on a 11-4 run and ended the 1st quarter leading 18-12. Westminster cut the lead to one point early in the second, making the score 18-17. Thiel went on a run of its own, scoring six-straight points and extending the lead to 24-17. Thiel led at half, 32-24. The Tomcats held a 53-41 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Titans, who were down by as much as 14 in the third quarter, mounted a comeback and came within two points of Thiel's lead (64-62) late in the fourth quarter. Thiel ended the game on a seven-point run, winning the game 69-62.
 
Thiel shot 40.8% (20-49) from the field, compared to Westminster's 36.2% (21-58). Thiel also shot 40.9% from behind the arc (9-22), while Westminster shot 25.0% (5-20). The Titans outrebounded the Tomcats, 36-35.
 
Westminster is back in action on Monday, November 27 for its home opener versus non-conference foe Hiram College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
