NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team shut out Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College, 3-0, at home Thursday evening.
Tonight's win completed the regular season sweep for the Titans over the Golden Tornadoes for the first time since 2007.
Westminster improved to 23-5 overall and 14-3 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 12-19 overall and 10-7 in league play.
The Titans won set one, 25-12, set two, 25-18, and set three, 25-10. Westminster, up 10-8 in the set one, pulled away outscoring Geneva 15-4 for the remainder of the set. The Titans were up 10-1 in set two. The Golden Tornadoes got within five points of the Titans' lead (22-17), however, Westminster won the second set 25-18.
In the final set, Westminster, ahead 8-5, took a commanding 19-7 lead after an 11-2 run. The Titans sealed the set and the match after outscoring Geneva 6-3, capped off with a kill by sophomore
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John); junior
Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) earned the assist.
Senior
Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) led the Titan offense with a match-high 13 kills, followed by senior
Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) (10) and DeGeorge (9). Junior
Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) earned a team-high 19 assists, followed by Barker with 15. Daniels and DeGeorge each registered a match-best two service aces. Dickson led the Titan defense as she tied a match-high with 21 digs. Junior
Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) also had 21 digs, followed by DeGeorge (13) and Daniels (11). Yoho and junior
Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) each had a match-best three blocks. Sophomore
Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) added two blocks.
Westminster will conclude the regular season with a home tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 28 for its Senior Day. The Titans will face Waynesburg University at 10 a.m., followed by a non-conference match against Oberlin College at 2 p.m.
