LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won, 3-1, at Saint Vincent College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Tuesday evening.
The Titans were down 9-7 in set one, however, outscored the Bearcats 18-7 for the remainder of the set for the first set win (25-16). Saint Vincent was down 7-6 in the second set, however, orchestrated a 10-0 run and took a commanding 16-7 lead. The Titans got within three points of Saint Vincent's lead (24-21), but Saint Vincent tied the match, 1-1, after Cassie Murcko registered a block for a 25-21 set two victory. Up 7-5 in the third set, Westminster widened its lead to 16-8 and finished the set winning 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead. Tied 2-2 in the fourth set, Westminster pulled away with an 8-1 run and led 10-3. After Saint Vincent came within two points of Westminster's lead (11-9), the Titans went on a 10-2 run and led 21-11. The Titans sealed the set and the match by winning the fourth set 25-15.
Seniors
Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) and
Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) led the Titan offense with 13 kills each. Yoho also tallied a match-high five blocks. Junior
Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) and sophomore
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) earned eight and seven kills, respectively. Sophomore
Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) added six kills. Junior
Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) dished out a team-high 24 assists. Junior
Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) and first-year
Hannah Santom (Grove City, PA / Grove City) had 12 and 11 assists, respectively. DeGeorge led the Titan defense with 26 digs. Junior
Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) (16) and Dickson (11) also registered double-digit digs.
The Titans improved to 22-5 overall and 13-3 in the PAC, while the Bearcats dropped to 11-16 overall and 4-12 in the league.
The Titans will next host Geneva College on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
