NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team shut out Saint Vincent College, 8-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest at home Saturday night.
Westminster improved to 7-6-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the PAC, while the Bearcats dropped to 3-11-1 overall and 0-5-0 in the conference.
Freshman
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) scored the first Titan goal at the 4:24 mark off a free kick from the top of penalty box. Junior
Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) found sophomore
Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown), who made a chip shot over Saint Vincent's goalie inside the penalty box, to extend Westminster's lead to 2-0 in the 27
th minute. Iregui scored his second goal of the game at the 33
rd minute off a deflection from the goalie and the Titans led 3-0 at intermission.
Iregui earned a hat trick off a penalty kick at the 48:17 mark. He then scored his fourth goal of the game with a header inside the box, after receiving a pass from Mattocks, in the 50
th minute in the second half, putting Westminster in front 5-0. Mattocks scored his second goal of the game in the 63
rd minute, extending the Titans' lead to 6-0. Freshmen
Parker Redmond (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) and
Tevin Dixon (Brunswick, GA / Brunswick) each registered the first goal of their careers for the final two Westminster goals. Redmond scored from 20 yards out, while Dixon netted a goal with a one touch from 10 yards out after receiving a pass from classmate
Matthew Mafrici (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).
Westminster outshot Saint Vincent 22-14, including 12-6 on goal. The Titans also held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Titans are back on the field Wednesday, Oct. 18 at home against Bethany College with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
