GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Thiel College, 4-1, on the road Wednesday night.
The win was Westminster's first conference victory of the season. The Titans improved to 6-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the PAC, while Thiel dropped to 4-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.
Titan senior
Jon Clark (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) scored first for Westminster in the 7
th minute, taking a deflection off a corner kick and finishing inside the penalty box, to give the Titans the early 1-0 lead.
The Tomcats tied the game in the 13
th minute off the foot of Andreas Hauge Jonassen. Five minutes later, Westminster senior
Grant Gagnon (Johnstown, PA / Westmont Hilltop) gave sophomore
Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) a 35-yard cross pass for the goal. Mattocks waited for Gagnon's cross inside the penalty box and created space to head the ball in to give the Titans a 2-1 lead. Mattocks added his second goal of the night in the 27
th minute, scoring off a deflection. The Titans took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Just six minutes into the second half, Titan junior
Justin Brandt (Ellicott City, MD / Archbishop Spalding) scored the Titans' fourth goal of the game. Westminster held off the Tomcats the rest of the way.
Mattocks finished with seven shots, three shots on goal, and two goals. Clark tallied four shots, two shots on goal, and one score. Titan junior
Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) totaled three shots, including two on goal.

AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) had one save in 20 minutes of work. Titan freshman
Chance Herbst (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) finished the game between the posts and had two saves in 70 minutes.
Westminster outshot Thiel, 25-11, and led in corner kicks, 8-5.
The Titans are back in action Saturday, October 14 at home against PAC foe Saint Vincent College. Start time is set for 6:30 p.m.
