NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 74-64, to Waynesburg University at home in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) led the Titan offense with 14 points, to go along with a team-best five rebounds. Sophomore
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) and junior
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) scored 10 points each. Junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) added nine points, while first-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) had six. Junior

Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) each had four boards. Mathews also led the team in assists (2) and steals (3). Mathews and
Emily Fromknecht also had a block each.
Westminster (5-8, 0-6 PAC) outshot Waynesburg (8-5, 4-2 PAC) 42.6% (23-54) to 38.5% (25-65). The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Titans 48-32, including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds.
The first half consisted of five ties and eight lead changes. Westminster had its largest lead of 27-23 when first-year
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca) found Quinn for a three-pointer with 4:13 remaining in the second quarter. Waynesburg responded with a 9-0 run to take its largest lead of 32-27 with 1:17 to play; the run was capped off with a traditional three-point play by Haley Delaney. The Yellow Jackets led 32-29 at halftime. Westminster went up 38-34 in the third quarter after Durbin made a three with 4:33 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 11-2 run and led 45-40 with 2:07 remaining; Waynesburg led 47-42 at the end of three quarters. Waynesburg led by 10 points five times in the fourth quarter with the latest coming with 19 seconds remaining. The Titans got within six points of Waynesburg's lead (70-64) with 38 seconds remaining, but was not able to overcome the deficit.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday, January 11 when they host Grove City College at 6 p.m.
