Men’s Basketball: Titans Win Third-Straight, Top Waynesburg 58-52

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won its third-straight game after a 58-52 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University at home Saturday afternoon.
 
Titan junior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) led all scorers with 14 points, to go along with nine rebounds. Freshman Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) and junior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) also scored in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Scott registered his fifth double-double of the season as he grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Scott also tied a game-high with four assists. Sophomore Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) and senior Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) each had seven points. Kane-Johnson and Armwood each pocketed a game-high three steals. Kane-Johnson and sophomore Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) earned a block apiece.
 
Waynesburg (4-9, 2-4 PAC) outshot Westminster (9-4, 5-1 PAC) 38.9% (21-54) to 34.9% (22-63) and outrebounded the Titans 41-38.
 
The Yellow Jackets led 16-9 with 13:47 remaining in the first half. The Titans responded with a 13-5 run to take a 22-21 lead, capped off with a three-pointer by Armwood, with 8:17 on the clock. The Titans followed that run with a 9-2 one and led 31-23 with 4:59 remaining. Waynesburg finished the half with a 9-4 run to cut the Titans' lead to 35-32 at halftime. Down 39-33 with 17:05 to play in the second half, the Yellow Jackets orchestrated an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 41-39, with 14:17 left. The Titans answered with an 8-0 run of their own to take a 47-41 lead with 12:26 remaining. Waynesburg got within two points (47-45) and three points (49-46) of the Titans' lead, but would not get any closer for the remainder of the contest.
 
Westminster will next host Grove City College on Wednesday, January 11 at 8 p.m.
