NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won, 67-60, over Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action at home Saturday evening.
Five Titans scored in double-digits, led by first-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) who tied a career-high with 17 points (8-for-11). Sophomore
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) (13), senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) (12), first-year
Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) (11), and junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) (11) also scored in double figures. Durbin led the Titans on the glass with nine rebounds, while Fromknecht and Cook each had eight. Junior
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) dished-out a game-high four assists.
The Titans outshot the Bison 45.8% (27-59) to 31.7% (20-63). Bethany outrebounded Westminster 43-41.
Westminster (8-11, 3-9 PAC) led 11-3 with 5:52 left in the first quarter. Bethany (10-9, 8-4 PAC) answered with a 17-0 run for the remainder of the frame and led 20-11. The Titans started the second quarter with a 14-3 run to cut the Bison's lead to 25-23 with 5:49 remaining. Bethany remained in front and led 31-26 at intermission. The Titans' started the second half with an 8-2 run to take a 34-33 lead with 6:48 on the clock. Westminster maintained its lead and was in front 45-41 at the end of three quarters. The Titans stayed ahead in the fourth and had their largest lead of the game, 63-52, with 2:24 on the clock.
The Titans will next host Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday, February 1 at 6 p.m.
