PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 67-61, in overtime at Chatham University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday night.
Titan first-year
Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) registered the first double-double of her career after tallying a career-high 23 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. Junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) was one rebound shy of a double-double as she scored 10 points and had nine rebounds. Senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) and sophomore
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) each scored nine points. First-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) grabbed down eight rebounds, to go along with six points. Gage and Fromknecht each dished out a team-best four assists. Gage and Durbin each pocketed a team-high two steals.
The Titans outshot the Cougars 40.7% (24-59) to 29.6% (21-71) and outrebounded Chatham 46-41.
Westminster (7-11, 2-9 PAC) was in front the entire first half and had its largest lead of the half, 29-19, when Gage made a jumper with 3:24 remaining in the second quarter. The Titans led 30-23 at intermission. Westminster had its largest lead of 12 points in the third quarter, with the latest coming with 4:38 on the clock when first-year
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) made a jumper, putting the Titans in front 43-31. Chatham (10-7, 5-6 PAC) took its first lead of the game, 49-47, with 7:07 remaining in regulation. Gage scored the tying jumper with seven seconds on the clock, forcing overtime tied at 55. In extra minutes, Westminster led 59-58 with 2:53 to play. Chatham, however, outscored the Titans 9-2 for the remainder of the period to seal the victory.
The Titans will next host Bethany College (WV) on Saturday, January 28 at 5:30 p.m.
