Men’s Basketball: Tomcats Top Titans with Second Half Comeback

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 85-79, at Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
 
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by junior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) with 18 points. Vrabel registered a double-double as he also earned a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) scored 17 points, to go along with nine rebounds and a team-high five assists. Sophomore Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) (13) and senior Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) (12) also scored in double-figures. Freshman Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) and Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) tallied eight and seven points, respectively. Pilarski added seven rebounds and tied with Domenick for a team-best two steals.
 
Thiel outshot Westminster 47.8% (32-67) to 43.1% (31-72) for the game and 60.71% (17-28) to 36.84% (14-38) in the second half. The Tomcats also outrebounded the Titans 44-42 for the game.
 
Tied 15-15 in the first frame, Westminster (10-7, 6-4 PAC) went on a 10-2 run, capped off with a layup by senior Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham), and had its largest lead of the frame, 25-17, with 13:31 on the clock. The Titans led 40-38 at halftime. Westminster held a 12 point-lead four times in the second half with the latest coming with 10:22 remaining (67-55). Thiel (9-6, 5-5 PAC) responded with a 15-2 run to take its first lead of the game (70-69) with 5:11 to play. Vrabel made two free throws to put the Titans in front 73-72 with 3:25 remaining. Thiel regained the lead and maintained it as it outscored Westminster 13-6 for the remainder of the contest.
 
Westminster is back in action Wednesday, January 25 when it travels to Chatham University for an 8 p.m. contest.
