NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team opened its 2016 season with a 2-1 non-conference win over Penn College Friday night.
Titan freshman
Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) scored both Westminster goals, including the first of his collegiate career. Mattocks tied the game, 1-1, with a score at the 23:49 mark of the first half as he split defenders in the box; sophomore
Justin Brandt (Elliott City, MD / Archbishop Spalding) earned the assist. Mattocks netted the game-winner with 2:40 remaining in regulation after dribbling past Penn College's defense and placing the ball in the center of the net.
Penn College took an early 1-0 lead after a goal by Luke McFalls less than three minutes into the game.
Westminster sophomore goalkeeper
AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) earned the win in a complete-game effort.
For the game, the Titans out-shot the Wildcats 14-3.
Westminster will play Alfred University tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
