WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on the road on Wednesday. With the sweep, Titan Head Coach
Jan Reddinger, who is in her 20
th year as the head coach for the Titans, won the 500
th game of her career. She becomes the 29
th active head softball coach in NCAA Division III with at least 500 wins.
The Titans, winning their seventh-straight, won game one, 6-2, and game two, 5-2.
In game one, Westminster (11-11, 4-0 PAC) took a 2-0 lead with two runs in its first at bat; Titan sophomore
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) singled home junior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport), while senior
Lexi Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) brought home junior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln). First-year
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) connected on a two-run single in the second, scoring sophomore
Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) and extending Westminster's lead to 4-0. Nardone scored the fifth run on an error. Sophomore
Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) singled home first-year
Emily Secrist (Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg Area). Washington & Jefferson (4-12, 1-3 PAC) spoiled the shutout when Emily Watson hit a two-run home run in the Presidents' last at bat. Rohrer (6-6) pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs on three hits and striking out 10 batters and walking none; this was the third time this season Rohrer earned double-digit strikeouts.
In the second game, Rohrer scored the first run for Westminster with an RBI-single in the first inning, scoring Liverman. The Titans went ahead, 3-0, with two more runs in the second; senior
Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) scored sophomore
Nicole Anderson (Oakmont, PA / Riverview) and Ritter singled home sophomore
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango). In the fourth, Lindsey doubled home sophomore
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango), putting Westminster in front 4-0. Dieterich registered Westminster's fifth run with an RBI-double, scoring Liverman. Watson once again spoiled a shutout with a two-run homer in the sixth. Forrest (5-5) threw a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits. She struck out four and walked one.
The Titans will next travel to Chatham University on Saturday, April 9 in a PAC doubleheader.
