Men’s Lacrosse: Titans Fall at Bethany in High-Scoring Affair

BETHANY, W. VA. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 19-15, at Bethany College in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) game Wednesday night.
 
Freshman Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) and classmate Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) led the Titan attack with four goals each. Sophomore Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) and freshman Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) scored three goals each, while Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) scored one. Ryan Shorts tied a team-high with seven points, as he tallied a team-best three assists. Additionally, Ryan Shorts and Walker registered a team-high five ground balls each.
 
Westminster (2-2, 1-2 ORLC) led 2-0 early in the first quarter after two goals by Kennedy at 14:04 and 9:18, respectively. Bethany (2-9, 2-1 ORLC) pulled ahead after five-straight goals to take a 5-2 lead with 4:47 on the clock. The Titans scored two more goals, courtesy of Wike (3:02) and Ryan Shorts (0:44), to cut the Bisons' lead to 5-4 at the end of one.
 
In the second quarter, the Titans picked up where they left off in the first and netted two-straight goals (Kennedy/14:01 and Ryan Shorts/13:33) to regain the lead, 6-5.  Bethany responded with three-straight goals and led, 8-6, with 6:29 remaining. Wike scored another goal (3:19), followed by a goal by Bethany with eight seconds remaining and the Bison led 9-7 at intermission.
 
In the second half, Bethany took its largest lead of five points twice, the latest with 9:17 remaining in the fourth, which proved to be too much for Westminster to overcome.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) (2-2) tied a career-high 17 saves in a complete game effort.
 
Westminster will next host Transylvania University (KY) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
