Men’s Lacrosse: Transylvania Uses Second Half Surge to Top Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 11-6, to Transylvania University in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) contest at home on Saturday.
 
Titan freshman goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) (2-3) collected a career-high 24 saves in a complete game effort.
 
Transylvania (5-6, 3-1 ORLC) scored first with 13:48 left in the first quarter. Westminster (2-3, 1-3 ORLC) tied the game, 1-1, when freshman Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) scored at the 2:05 mark. In the second quarter, sophomore Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) put Westminster in front 2-1 with a goal with 14:38 remaining in the half. The Pioneers tied the game at 2 after a goal with 5:41 remaining. The score was knotted up 2-2 at halftime.  
 
The Pioneers scored seven-straight goals in the third quarter, with the last one coming with 3:29 on the clock, to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Ryan Shorts stopped the streak with his second goal of the game with 2:20 remaining, bringing the score to 9-3. Sophomore Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) earned the assist.
 
Westminster outscored Transylvania 3-2 in the fourth quarter. The Titan goals were courtesy of freshman Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) (8:24), freshman Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) (6:56), and Zack Shorts (2:26).
 
The Pioneers held a 54-19 advantage in ground balls. Alex Wesselman and Zack Riggs for the Pioneers tallied a game-high six ground balls each, while Westminster's Zack Shorts had a team-high three. Transylvania had 35 shots-on-goal, while Westminster had seven. Andrew Meyer, Clark Watts, and Josh Mesmer of Transylvania each registered a team-high two goals.
 
The Titans will next travel to Thiel College on Wednesday, April 13 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
