GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team won its 17
th-straight game on Saturday after a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep at Thiel College.
Westminster improved to 21-11 overall and remained undefeated in the conference with a 14-0 record. The Titans won game one 6-2 and 4-1 in the second game.
In game one, Westminster took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the third inning; junior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) doubled home sophomore
Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline), followed by an RBI-single by first-year
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley), which scored Lindsey. In the fifth inning, the Titans added insurance after senior
Lexi Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) connected on a double, scoring Liverman, and sophomore
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) hit a two-run single, bringing home Sheffer and sophomore
Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley). Thiel (10-18, 4-8 PAC) scored a run in the fifth and Westminster added a run in the seventh. Rohrer improved to 11-6 on the season, after pitching a complete game. She allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out four batters and walking one.
In the second game, the Titans took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first; Liverman doubled home Lindsey, Lindsey's team-leading 29
th run scored for the season, and Sheffer singled in Liverman. Liverman now has a team-leading 38 RBIs on the year. Junior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) extended Westminster's lead to 3-0 in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring senior
Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring). The Tomcats spoiled the shutout with a run in the sixth, while the Titans added another run in the seventh when Dieterich singled in Liverman. Forrest (10-5) pitched a complete game, only allowing one run on five hits. She struck out one and walked two.
The Titans will play a PAC doubleheader versus Grove City College in their final home game for Senior Day on Tuesday, April 26. Game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
