GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 9-3, at Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) nine-inning game on Wednesday.
Westminster (2-21, 0-11 PAC) had a 3-0 lead after scoring three runs in its first at bat. Junior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) connected on a two-run single, scoring freshman
Travis Lauster (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) and sophomore
Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union). Freshman
Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) scored the third run with a single to left field, bringing home sophomore
Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny).
Thiel (18-6, 7-2 PAC) quickly tied the game, 3-3, with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tomcats took a 5-3 lead with two runs in the second and added two runs in the third, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh.
Titan senior
Kyle Borton (Mineral Ridge, OH / Mineral Ridge) (1-5) pitched 5.0 innings, while giving up two earned runs (seven total) on nine hits. Borton struck out three batters and walked two.
For the game, Westminster out-hit Thiel, 13-12. Coyne and Rossier registered a team-high three hits each.
The Titans will next play at Thomas More College on Saturday, April 16 in a conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
