KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Westminster College softball team split two games in its last day of the Rebel Spring Games in Florida on Wednesday. The Titans won 12-2 over Beloit College in game one and lost 8-6 in extra innings, after being down 4-0, to Rhodes College.
In game one, Westminster took a 3-0 lead in the third inning after junior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) connected on a two-RBI double and first-year
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) had an RBI-single. The Titans added five more runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. Lindsey, Liverman, and senior
Lexi Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) each had an RBI. Beloit scored its lone runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Titans scored one more run in the fifth and three more in the seventh, including two additional RBIs by Lindsey. For the game, Lindsey went 2-for-3 at the plate with a game-high four RBIs, while Liverman went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Junior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) recorded a game-best four runs. Titan senior
Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) (2-3) earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings and giving up only two hits. She struck out six and walked two.
Rhodes took an early 4-0 lead with four runs in the first inning in game two. Westminster got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third after Sheffer singled home Liverman and Nardone; Lindsey additionally scored on the play from an error. Also in the third, sophomore
Nicole Anderson (Oakmont, PA / Riverview) tied the game, 4-4, with a sacrifice fly, scoring classmate
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango). Rhodes regained the lead with a run in the fourth, however the Titans took their first lead of game with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Sheffer singled in sophomore
Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline), while sophomore
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) scored Liverman on a fielder's choice. Rhodes tied the game, 6-6, with a run in the sixth and sealed the win with two more in the eighth. Rohrer (2-3) pitched a complete game, while giving up six earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out four batters and walked one.
Westminster (4-6) will next play at Hiram College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
