FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team was swept by Monmouth College in a doubleheader in Florida on Wednesday.
The Titans lost 6-3 in game one and 10-2 in game two.
Monmouth (4-2) scored first in game one with a run in the second inning. Junior
Ty Ferlin (Latrobe, PA / Ligonier Valley) tied the game, 1-1, as he scored in the top of the third. The Scots quickly regained the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Titan freshman
Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union) singled home junior
Tyler Bommer (Renfrew, PA / Seneca Valley) in the fourth and
Luke Ferlin (Latrobe, PA / Ligonier Valley) singled in junior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) in the fifth to cut Monmouth's lead to 5-3. The Scots added insurance with a solo home run in the sixth. Coyne (0-1) pitched a complete game, while giving up four earned runs, while striking out one and walking two.
Westminster (0-5) was held scoreless in game two until the sixth inning when Coyne connected on a two-RBI single, scoring

Dante Greco (New Castle, PA / Neshannock). Monmouth scored one run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh. Titan freshman
Cory Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) (0-1) pitched six innings, while giving up eight runs (four earned) on eight hits. He struck out seven batters and walked two.
The Titans will continue their Florida trip on Thursday with a doubleheader versus Kenyon College. Game one is set for 9:30 a.m.
