Softball: Titans Split Games in Florida, Including 4-3 Win in Extra Innings

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Westminster College softball team split its two games in day four of its Rebel Spring Games trip in Florida on Tuesday. The Titans lost, 5-2, to Kean University in game one and won, 4-3, in eight innings, after a walk-off single by sophomore Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove), over Muskingum University in game two.

In game one, Kean led 3-0 after five innings of play. Westminster (3-5) cut Kean's lead to 3-2 after two runs in the top of the sixth inning. First-year Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) and senior Lexi Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) each had an RBI. Kean added insurance with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rohrer (2-2) threw 5.0 innings, while giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits. She struck out six batters and walked five.

Game two went into extra innings with the game tied 0-0. Muskingum took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Liverman scored the first run for the Titans with an RBI-single, followed by an RBI-single by Sheffer. Sophomore Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) tied the game, 3-3, after she was hit by a pitch and scored Liverman. Next up was Rohrer, and with the bases loaded, she singled home sophomore Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) for the walk-off run. Senior Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) (1-3) earned the win after pitching a complete game. She gave up three runs (none earned) on eight hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

Westminster will wrap up its Florida trip on Wednesday with games against Beloit College (11:15 a.m.) and Rhodes College (3:45 p.m.).
