Softball: Titans Sweep Pitt Bradford at Home

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept Pitt Bradford at home Tuesday night. The Titans won game one, 6-5, and won 7-4 in the nightcap.

Westminster (7-11) used a sixth-inning rally to win the first game as they scored three runs with two outs. Sophomore Gabby Butcher (Youngstown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) started the rally with an RBI-double, scoring senior Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) to tie the game at 4. Junior Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) followed with an RBI-double of her own, scoring Butcher. Senior Lexi Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) scored the third run, singling in Lindsey. The Panthers threatened in their last at-bat as they scored a run and had the tying run on second. Pitt Bradford's Nicole Nolte flew a shot to center field, but a diving catch by junior Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) sealed the Titan win.

Earlier in the game, Pitt Bradford (4-12) led 3-0 after a Titan error in the first inning. First-year Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) put Westminster on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-run double, scoring Nardone and Forrest, to cut the Panthers' lead to 3-2. Pitt Bradford added a run in the top of the fourth, however it was matched with an RBI-single by Forrest in the bottom half.

Forrest improved to 4-5 on the year after pitching a complete game. She gave up only one earned run (five total) on four hits, while striking out five and walking two.

In game two, Liverman quickly got the Titans on the board with a three-run home run in the first inning, scoring Nardone and Lindsey. The homer was Liverman's first of her career.

After the Panthers scored in the third to make the score 3-1, in favor of Westminster, the Titans extended their lead to 7-1 with four runs in the fourth. Earning an RBI were Lindsey, Nardone, and sophomore Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove). Pitt Bradford added three runs in the sixth, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

Rohrer (3-6) threw a complete game, while giving up only one earned run (four total) on five hits. She struck out nine batters and walked one.

Westminster will next host Geneva College in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2. Game one is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
