Women’s Basketball: Despite Halftime Lead, Titans Fall at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Despite leading at halftime, the Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 77-55, at Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Wednesday night.
 
Westminster (3-21, 3-14 PAC) led 11-6 in the first quarter after sophomore Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) made a layup with 4:30 on the clock. Washington & Jefferson (20-4, 15-2 PAC) answered with a 7-1 run to take its first lead of the game, 13-12, with 2:52 remaining. The Titans went back in front and led 20-17 at the end of one. Westminster remained ahead the entire second quarter and held a 33-30 lead at intermission.
 
Down 37-36 with 8:01 to go in the third quarter, the Presidents regained the lead and out-scored the Titans 18-5 for the remainder of the frame and led 54-42 at the end of three.
 
The Presidents maintained their double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and led by as much as 25 points twice, with the latest coming with 3:44 remaining.
 
For the game, Westminster out-shot Washington & Jefferson 39.6% (19-48) to 37.8% (28-74). W&J led on the glass, 45-35.
 
Junior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) led the Titan offense with 17 points, while Fromknecht scored 11. Sophomore Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) and sophomore Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) added seven and six points, respectively. Sophomore Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Conchranton) tied a career-high with a team-high nine rebounds. Durbin also had eight boards and team-bests in assists (4) and steals (2). Cook and Quinn added a team-high two blocks each.
 
Westminster will close out the regular season on Saturday with a home game against Geneva College for its Senior Day at 1:30 p.m.
