Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, guiding the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 66-61 win over the visiting Bethany College Bison Wednesday night.
Westminster (3-19, 3-12 PAC) took its first lead of the game (6-5) when junior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) made a layup with 4:51 remaining in the first quarter. Bethany (8-14, 6-9 PAC) got back in front and led 12-8 after a 7-2 run with 3:08 on the clock. The Titans responded with an 8-1 run to take their largest lead of the half (16-13) when Durbin found sophomore
Ashley McConahy (New Wilmington, PA / Ellwood City) for a layup with 38 seconds remaining. The gamed was tied at 16 at the end of one.
The Bison quickly regained the lead with a three-pointer by Kelsi Settle less than 30 seconds into second quarter and took its largest lead of nine points when Alexis LoNero made a three-pointer with 3:31 on the clock. The Bison held a 31-26 lead at halftime.
Down 37-30 with 5:24 on the clock in the third quarter, Westminster outscored Bethany 19-7 for the remainder of the quarter, which was capped off with a half-court-buzz-beater by sophomore
Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic), and took a 49-44 lead after three.
Westminster was up by as much as 10 points, 54-44 with 8:26 remaining in the fourth, but Bethany got within three points twice (2:59 and 46 seconds remaining), both courtesy of a three-pointer by Hayley Holenk. Westminster sealed the win after making five of its last six free throws.
Dindak and Durbin contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) and McConahy added six points each. Dickson tied a career-high with a game-high nine rebounds. Cook and sophomore
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered eight and six rebounds, respectively. Durbin also had a game- and career-high seven assists and led Westminster with three steals. Cook added a team-high two blocks.
The Titans are back in action Saturday when they travel to Thiel College with a start time of 1 p.m.
