NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 69-65, to La Roche College in a non-conference contest at home Wednesday night.
Sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) led the Titan offense with a game-high 19 points. Junior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) also scored in double figures with 11 points. Scott led Westminster with six rebounds, while junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) had five. Vrabel and senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added nine and eight points, respectively. Junior
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) dished out a team-high five assists, while Vrabel pocketed a game-high three steals.
The Redhawks (5-3) outshot the Titans (4-3) 41.3% (26-63) to 39.3% (22-56) and outrebounded Westminster 43-27.
The first half consisted of six ties and six lead changes. Westminster had its largest lead of four points twice, with the latest coming when it led 18-14 with 13:40 on the clock, while La Roche had its largest lead of five points twice, with the latest occurring when it was up 25-20 with 10:10 remaining. The Titans led 42-41 at halftime.
The Titans had their largest lead of the game, 53-45, when Pilarski made a jumper with 14:43 remaining in the second half. The Redhawks responded with a 12-2 run and led 57-55 with 8:23 to play. La Roche did not trail for the remainder of the game and had its largest of lead of six points twice, with the latest coming with 1:51 on the clock (67-61).
Westminster is back on the court Saturday, December 10 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest at Washington & Jefferson College. Tip off is slated for 3 p.m.
