Women’s Basketball: Six Titans Score in Double-Digits in 78-69 Win Over Kalamazoo

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won, 78-69, over Kalamazoo College in a non-conference game at home Tuesday night.

Six Titans scored in double-digits, led by sophomore Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) who tied a career-high with 17 points as she shot a career-best 5-for-6 behind the three-point line. First-year Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) and first-year Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) each scored 12 points each; this was a career-high for Bennett. Junior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) (11), senior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) (10), and junior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) (10) also scored in double figures. Emily Fromknecht tied a game-high with a team-high eight rebounds, to go along with a team-high two blocks. Kristine Fromknecht added seven boards and tied a game-high with a team-best five assists.

Westminster (4-3) outshot Kalamazoo (0-5) 45.9% (28-61) to 36.5% (23-63) and outrebounded the Hornets 41-39.

The Titans took their largest lead of the first quarter when Mathews made a three-pointer putting Westminster in front 20-14 with 2:08 on the clock. In the second quarter, Westminster had its largest lead of the half when it went on an 8-0 run, capped off with a layup by Bennett, and led 33-20 with 6:44 remaining. The Titans led 35-27 at halftime. Westminster had its largest lead of the game (63-40) with 9:42 remaining in the fourth. The Hornets, however, responded with a 17-0 run to cut the Titans' lead to 63-57 with 4:16 left in the game. Westminster answered with an 8-0 run and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.

Westminster is back in action Saturday, December 10, when it travels to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College with a 1 p.m. start time.
