Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall at W&J, 89-72

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 89-72, at Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
 
First-year Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca) led the Titan offense with a career-high 15 points, which included a team-high three three-pointers. Sophomore Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) (14) and junior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) (12) also scored in double digits. Senior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) added nine points, to go along with six rebounds. First-year Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) grabbed a game-high nine boards.
 
The Titans dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while W&J improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the PAC.
 
Westminster outshot W&J 46.4% (26-56) to 43.8% (32-73), and outrebounded the Presidents, 39-37.
 
The Titans led 9-2 (their largest of the game), capped off with a jumper by Cook, with 7:19 remaining in the first quarter. The Presidents outscored Westminster 17-7 for the remainder of the quarter to take a 19-16 lead at the end of the frame. W&J never trailed in the second quarter and had its largest lead of 11 points twice, with the latest coming with seven seconds left (43-32). The Presidents led 43-34 at intermission. W&J maintained its lead in the second half and had its largest lead of 22 points (89-67) with 53 seconds remaining in the game.
 
Westminster is back in action next Saturday, December 17 with a non-conference game at Penn State Beaver at 1 p.m.
