Women’s Basketball: Titans Break School Record for Most Three-Pointers in 88-48 Win at John Jay College

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won, 88-48, at John Jay College on Friday.
 
The Titans broke the school record for most made three-point field goals in a game with 16. Senior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) and first-year Francesca Sicari (Erie, PA / McDowell) each made a team-high four three-pointers, while sophomore Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) and junior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) made three each.
 
Five Titans scored in double figures, led by Durbin and Mathews who each had 14 points. Sicari scored a career-high 13 points. Kristine Fromknecht and Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered 11 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and first-year Maggie Monahan (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) added six points each; this marked a career-best for Monahan. Emily Fromknecht and Mathews led the Titans on the glass with eight rebounds apiece. Kristine Fromknecht added a game-high two blocks and tied with junior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) with a team-high two steals.
 
The Titans improved to 5-6 overall, while the Bloodhounds fell to 0-11.
 
Westminster outshot John Jay 42.6% (29-68) to 30.6% (15-49) and outrebounded the Bloodhounds 42-38.
 
The Titans took their first lead with 1:40 remaining in the first quarter after Mathews made a three-pointer, putting Westminster in front 16-13. The Titans led 18-16 after one. Westminster extended its lead in the second quarter as it outscored John Jay 14-4 and led 32-20 at intermission. After a high-scoring third quarter (42 points combined), the Titans led 54-40 going into the final frame. Westminster maintained its double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, while outscoring the Bloodhounds 34-8.
 
Westminster is back on the court Thursday, Jan. 5 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) home game against Thomas More College at 6 p.m.
