Men’s Basketball: Kane-Johnson Leads Titans Past Kenyon, 74-73

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 74-73, at Kenyon College in a non-conference contest Thursday night.
 
Junior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) put the Titans in front, 74-73, with two made free throws with 1:03 to play.
 
Titan first-year Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) led all scorers with a career-high 30 points (11 of 18), including a team-high five made three-pointers. Scott scored 15 points, while sophomore Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) had 10 points. Senior Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) and junior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) registered eight points each. Scott and Vrabel led on the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds each. Kane-Johnson and senior Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) dished out a team-best three assists each. Pilarski also pocketed a team-high three steals.

The Titans improved to 7-4 overall, while the Lords dropped to 2-8.
 
Westminster outshot Kenyon 44.8% (26-58) to 41.9% (26-62). Both teams had 39 rebounds.
 
The Titans started the game with a 10-0 run with 17:42 on the clock. Kenyon responded with an 11-2 run to cut the Titans' lead to 12-11 with 15:10 remaining. The Lords took their first lead of game, 19-18, with 11:08 left in the half. Kenyon had its largest lead of 11 points (36-25) with 5:02 on the clock, however, the Titans finished the half with an 11-4 run to cut the Lords' lead 40-36 at halftime. The second half consisted of nine lead changes and seven ties. Kenyon had a 73-68 lead with 2:14 to play. Kane-Johnson made a three-pointer with 1:41 remaining, cutting Kenyon's lead to 73-72, before Scott made the two free throws.
 
Westminster will next compete next Thursday, January 5 at home versus Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thomas More College at 8 p.m.
