Men’s Basketball: Titans Overcome Double-Digit Halftime Deficit; Win 74-72, Over Thomas More

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 74-72, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thomas More College at home Thursday night.
 
Titan junior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) led all scorers with 20 points (10-of-11). Freshman Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) scored 17, while senior Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) had 12. Junior Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) added 11 points. Junior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) and sophomore Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) registered eight and six points, respectively. Scott led Westminster on the glass with eight rebounds, while Vrabel had five boards. Vrabel also had a game-high five assists, while Pilarski pocketed a game-best three steals.
 
Westminster (8-4, 4-1 PAC) outshot Thomas More (8-4, 4-1 PAC) 42.9% (24-56) to 42.1% (24-57). The Saints outrebounded the Titans 39-32.
 
The game was tied 12-12 with 11:59 on the clock in the first half, before Thomas More outscored Westminster 27-11 for the remainder of the frame and led 39-23 at the break. The Saints led by as much as 21 points (44-23) with 19:14 remaining in the second half, however, Westminster cut the Saints' lead to 49-35 after a 12-5 run with 13:20 to play. The Titans followed that run with an 18-4 one, capped off with a layup by Scott, and tied the game at 53 with 8:03 remaining. Westminster took its first lead, since the 14:28 mark of the first half, after a layup by Scott, putting the Titans' in front 57-56, with 7:10 on the clock. The Saints regained the lead, but a three-pointer by Domenick tied the game at 68. Domenick followed with another three to put Westminster in front 71-68 with 1:17 remaining. The teams traded a pair of free throws and the Titans led 73-70 with 16 seconds remaining. The Saints cut Westminster's lead, 73-72, with a pair of free throws by Damion King with nine seconds on the clock. After Pilarski made 1-of-2 free throws, Thomas More's Ralph Stone missed a three-pointer as time expired.
 
Westminster is back on the court Saturday, January 7 with a home game versus Waynesburg University at 3:30 p.m.
