YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 97-67, at Division I Youngstown State University Tuesday night.
Freshman
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) led the Titan offense with 13 points, including a team-best three three-pointers. Junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North), senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood), and sophomore
Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) registered eight points each. Pilarski and freshman
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) grabbed down five and four rebounds, respectively. Payne pocketed a game-high two steals.
YSU outshot Westminster 52.5% (32-61) to 32.9% (23-70) and outrebounded the Titans, 45-33. The Penguins held a 20-0 advantage in fast break points.
Westminster cut YSU's leads to 10-8 after Vrabel made a jumper with 15:55 on the clock. The Penguins followed with an 8-0 run to take an 18-8 lead with 11:58 remaining. YSU had its largest lead of the half (18 points), when it led 42-24 with 1:37 remaining. YSU led 44-27 at intermission. In the second half, the Penguins took their largest lead of the game (78-46) with 09:37 to play.
Midway through the first half, Kane-Johnson excited the Titan fans in attendance as he found sophomore African Grant (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) for an alley-oop dunk.
The Titans are back in action Saturday, November 26, at Franciscan University of Steubenville with a start time of 3p.m.
