STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Westminster College women's basketball team won its first game of the season after a 75-53 victory at Franciscan University of Steubenville on Saturday.
Titan junior
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) tied a game-high with a team-high 19 points, followed by senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) with 18 points. Durbin knocked down a game-high four three-pointers. Junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and first-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Kristine Fromknecht also registered a game-high eight rebounds, while Durbin and
Emily Fromknecht earned seven rebounds each. Cook added six boards. First-year
Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohwak) dished out a game-high five assists. Durbin and Gage pocketed a team-high three steals each.
Westminster (1-1) outshot Franciscan (0-3), 42.6% (26-61) to 33.3% (14-42) and outrebounded the Barons, 36-30.
Down 5-2 in the first quarter, Westminster orchestrated a 13-0 run to take a 15-5 lead with 4:53 remaining in the first. The Titans maintained the lead and led 22-14 at the end of one frame. Franciscan got within four points (29-25) of the Titans' lead with 5:06 to play in the first half, however, Westminster closed out the second quarter with an 8-0 run and led 37-25 at halftime. Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca) made a three-pointer with 5:04 remaining in the game.
The Titans will next play five-straight home games, starting on Monday, November 21 with a 7 p.m. contest versus Pennsylvania College.
