NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College football team won, 37-22, against Saint Vincent College in its Homecoming game Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Paul Columbo (Boca Raton, FL / West Boca Raton Community) went 23 of 32 for a game-high 276 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Columbo passed Todd Huda (1994-97) for fifth all-time in school history with 4,322 passing yards. Junior
Dominique McKinley (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) ran for a game-high 118 yards on 27 carries with two scores and passed Joe Veres (1968-71)
for sixth all-time in school history with 2,126 career rushing yards.
Senior
Mac Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Northgate) led the Titan defense with seven tackles, including one-and-a-half for a loss. Sophomore
Miguel Luis (Hollywood, FL / Mater Academy) added six tackles, including a tackle for a loss.
Bobby Noble (Greensburgh, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) added a sack.
For the game, Westminster out-gained Saint Vincent 460 yards (184 rushing, 276 passing) to 225 (60 rushing, 165 passing).
Westminster (4-1, 2-1 PAC) got on the scoreboard first after Columbo found classmate
Jametrius Bentley (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista Community) for a 51-yard touchdown through the air. Senior
Justin Dahl's (Cochranton, PA / Maplewood) extra point put the Titans in front 7-0 with 13:18 to play in the first quarter. Dahl later added a 33-yard field goal and Westminster led 10-0 with 11:02 on the clock.
Saint Vincent (4-2, 2-2 PAC) scored with a 22-yard run by Shavonta Craft and after a point-after-touchdown by Sam Elliott, the Titans led 10-7 with 6:47 remaining.
Columbo extended Westminster's lead to 16-7 after he connected with junior
Dylan Goff (Beaver, PA / Beaver) for a 14-yard touchdown with 1:34 on the clock. Dahl's extra point attempt was blocked, and Cameron Mack returned it to the end zone for a 2-point Bearcat conversion, making it a 16-9 game. The Titans led by the same at halftime.
In the second half, McKinley scored two-straight rushing touchdowns (a five and 14-yarder, respectively), both of which were followed by a Dahl extra point, to put the Titans in front 30-9 in the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Saint Vincent's DJ Oceant-Kelly cut Westminster's lead to 30-16 with a 13-yard touchdown catch from Derek Stewart with 9:23 remaining in the game. Elliott had the extra point.
Columbo threw his third touchdown pass for the day, this time to freshman
Chase Collison (Madisonburg, PA / Penns Valley), from three yards out with 1:21 remaining.
Saint Vincent scored the final touchdown with 17 seconds remaining when Derek Stewart found Damon Black from six yards out.
Westminster recognized members of the 1976 and 1977 NAIA Division II National Championship teams at halftime and wore white Westminster helmets for the game to honor the teams.
The Titans will next travel to Grove City College on Saturday, October 15 with a 2 p.m. start time.
