PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Despite having its second-best shooting performance of the season, the Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 66-64, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Chatham University in comeback fashion on Saturday.
Westminster (4-13, 4-6 PAC) led 35-24 at intermission and its potential game-winning three-point field goal in the second half came up short as time expired. The Titans shot 50.9% (27-53) from the field, the second-best for Westminster this season.
The Titans never trailed in the first half and led by as much as 15 twice, the latest coming with 2:30 remaining when senior
Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) made a jumper. Westminster led 35-24 at halftime.
Chatham (4-13, 4-6 PAC) opened the second half with an 18-7 run and tied the game 42-42 with 11:24 on the clock. The Cougars took their first lead when Anthony Bomar made a three-pointer, giving Chatham a 45-44 lead with 10:37 remaining. The Titans responded with a 6-0 run to take a 50-45 lead after another jumper by Wallander with 9:02 left. Five ties later, Chatham had a 65-61 lead with 31 seconds remaining. Senior
Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) cut Chatham's lead to 65-64 after he grabbed an offensive rebound and made a traditional three-point play as he was fouled scoring a jumper with 16 seconds on the clock. After Bomar split a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining, the Titans had a chance to win the game, but were unable to make a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively. Junior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added eight points. Freshman
Austin Armwood (Westerville, OH / Westerville North) tied a career-high with a game-high five assists. Vrabel also led on the glass with a game-high eight rebounds, to go along with team-highs in steals (2) and blocks (1). Scott added six boards.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday when they host Waynesburg University at 8 p.m.
