Volleyball: Titans Complete Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Westminster College volleyball team lost its last two matches of the Purple Raiders Classic on Saturday, hosted by the University of Mount Union.

Westminster (0-5) lost 3-0 (25-14,25-12,25-15) to Ohio Wesleyan University (4-1) in the first match and then 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-14) to the nationally ranked Mount Union (4-1) in the second match.

Against Ohio Wesleyan, first-year Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) led the Titan offense with eight kills, followed by sophomore Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) with five. Senior Tiffany Jackson (Las Vegas, NV / Las Vegas) and Shanna Daniels (Edinburg, PA / Billy C. Ryan, TX) dished out nine and eight assists, respectively. Daniels also paced the defense with a team-high eight digs, while Jackson had six.

Westminster led 21-15 in the second set versus Mount Union after first-year Nikki Beatty (Darlington, PA / Blackhawk) and Yoho blocked an attack attempt. The Purple Raiders responded with a 7-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. After the Titans tied the set, 22-22, with a kill by Yoho, Mount Union eventually sealed the win.

Saxton once again led the offense in game two with seven kills. Beatty contributed with six kills, while Yoho added five. Daniels tallied a team- and career-high 19 assists. First-year Hope Wilterdink (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) and senior Kelsey Kilbane (Medina, OH / Medina) both had a team-high seven digs.

Westminster will next compete in the two-day Baldwin Wallace/Case Western Reserve Invitational, starting on Friday, Sept. 11. The Titans will play Baldwin Wallace University at 5:30 p.m. and Hiram College at 7:30 p.m.
