NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team opened its 2015 season with a 3-0 win over the visiting Marietta College Pioneers (0-2) at home on Friday.
First-year
Keely Birsic (N. Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic), who was making her collegiate debut, scored the first goal for the Titans in the 33:17 minute from 20 yards out.
Senior
Rachel Simko (New Castle, PA / Laurel) scored the second goal at the 60:50 mark in the box off multiple deflections.
Titan junior
Rylie Shaw (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington North) added insurance for Westminster with a score in the 89:29 minute when she connected on a header off a corner kick from senior Mere Mishler (Johnstown, PA / Bishop McCort).
Westminster out-shot Marietta 28-1, led by senior
Raechel Pusateri (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) who had eight. Sophomore goalkeeper
Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) earned the shutout-win in 75:00 minutes of work.
The Titans are back on the field Saturday when they host Franciscan University at 4 p.m.
