NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 82-64, to the visiting Chatham University Cougars in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener Wednesday night inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) led Westminster with her first career double-double after scoring a career-high 19 points and matching a career-high 10 rebounds.
Westminster first-year Annie Popoff (Erie, PA / Mercyhurst Prep) added eight points. Sophomore
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) added nine rebounds, while classmate
Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Conchranton) registered seven.
Chatham forced 22 Titan turnovers. The Cougars had an 11-to-1 three-point field goal advantage. Westminster out-shot Chatham 25-54 (46.3%) to 26-71 (36.6%).
Westminster held a 10-4 lead in the first quarter after Popoff connected on a pair of free throws with 6:59 on the clock. Chatham went on a 14-8 run to tie the game at 18 with 41 seconds remaining. A layup by Fromknecht gave Westminster a 20-18 lead at the end of the first.
Chatham took its first lead since early in the first when Katelyn Sieg scored a jumper, putting the Cougars in front 28-26 with 6:25 remaining in the first half. Chatham orchestrated a 18-8 run to take its largest lead of the half (46-34) at the 1:39 mark. The Cougars led 46-38 at halftime. After leading 62-54 at the end of the third quarter, Chatham out-scored Westminster 20-10 in the fourth.
The Titans drop to 0-5 overall (0-1 in the PAC), while the Cougars improve to 4-1 overall (1-0 in the PAC).
Westminster will next host Thomas More College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
