CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - The Westminster College men's soccer team upset the No. 2 nationally ranked Thomas More College, 2-1, in dramatic fashion at the 2015 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. Titan sophomore
Zack Walters (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) scored the game-winner with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Senior
Ethan McCarthy (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) earned the assist.
Westminster (11-5-3) advances to the PAC Finals for the first time since 2008, the same year the Titans won their most recent of three PAC Championships. That is also the same year Westminster last beat the Saints.
After a 0-0 halftime score, senior
Eric Michalski (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) put Westminster in front at the 47:34 mark, for the first collegiate goal of his career.
The Saints (16-2-1) tied it late at the 86:41 mark after Austin Juniet found Eli Nienaber for a goal.
Walters netted the game-winner at the 89:35 mark, his fourth goal on the season.
Titan senior goalkeeper
Tyler Little (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) had nine saves and only allowed one goal in 90 minutes, against a Saints team that ranked third in the nation in scoring. The nine saves tied the second-most for Little this season.
Westminster will play the winner of the game between the third-seeded Grove City College and the second-seeded Geneva College (who play tonight at 7 p.m.) on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the PAC Championship.
