MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 66-60, to Muskingum University in the final day of the Allegheny Classic, hosted by Allegheny College, on Saturday.
Muskingum (1-2) was in the lead for the majority of the first two periods and led 32-28 at halftime.
Westminster (0-2) took a 46-45 lead at the end of the third period after first-year Annie Popoff (Erie, PA / Mercyhurst Prep) found sophomore
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) for a three-pointer.
The Muskies took their largest lead of the game (61-52) with 2:06 remaining. Westminster cut Muskingum's lead to 63-60 with 22 seconds remaining after a three-pointer by junior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville), however, the Titans were unable to overcome the deficit.
Durbin led Westminster with 19 points, followed by sophomore
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and Quinn with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) added seven points. Cook led Westminster on the glass with six rebounds, while Fromknecht and Quinn each had a team-high four assists. Durbin and Quinn registered a team-high three steals each.
Westminster out-shot Muskingum 37.5% (18-48) to 36.8% (21-57), while the Muskies held a 36-33 rebound-edge.
The Titans will next play Tuesday at Hiram College (OH) (3-1) at 6 p.m.
