NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team clobbered visiting Point Park, 7-1, at home on Saturday in the second day of the Westminster/Grove City Invitational.
Sophomore James Gross (McDonald, Pa./McGuffey) and senior Brice Lott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) netted two goals apiece for the Titans (2-1), while both players registered assists to finish the game with five points each.
The Titans actually put eight goals in the net, as Point Park's lone tally was an own goal that gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. The Titans tied the game when junior Aaron Zavora (Westmoreland City, Pa./Norwin) scored in the 27th minute, followed by two Gross goals before halftime.
Senior Ian Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) pocketed a goal on a Lott assist in the 68th minute, while sophomore Tyler Ryan (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored his first career goal in the 78th minute on Gross' assist. Lott scored the game's final two goals in the 84th and 86th minutes.
Junior Lance Leathers (Pleasant Gap, PA / Bellefonte) earned the win in net for Westminster after making just two saves in 70 minutes. The Titans outshot the Pioneers, 22-9.
Westminster returns to action at Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
