Women's Soccer: Westminster Ties Aurora in First Game of the Season

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team opened the 2007 season by playing to a 1-1 tie against visiting Aurora Friday in the first game of the Westminster/Grove City Soccer Invitational. No overtime was played as officials called the game a draw because of darkness.

The Titans (0-0-1) tied the game in the 82nd minute on a goal by Brittany McKee (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), which was the senior defender's seventh career goal. Senior midfielder Kait Etzel-Hardman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) assisted on the goal.

Aurora (0-0-1) scored its lone goal by Kim Knaub in the 39th minute.

Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) made eight saves. Aurora outshot the Titans 14-12.

Westminster plays host to Adrian Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second game of the weekend invitational.
