NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Former Westminster College football player and assistant coach Matt Raich has been hired as defensive quality control coach for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, the organization announced Tuesday.
Raich, a 1994 Westminster graduate, was a standout middle linebacker for the Titans from 1989-92 before finishing his career as the school's all-time leading tackler with 639 stops (396 solo, 243 assisted). A two-time All-American, Raich played in two national championship games and was a member of the 1989 NAIA National Championship team.
After serving as an assistant coach at Westminster from 1993-94, Raich was an assistant at Glenville State (1999), Robert Morris (1996-99) and was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach for the Hildesheim Invaders Football Club in the German Federal League in 1999.
A native of Monaca, Pa., Raich spent the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the last two years as the offensive quality control coach. He first joined the Steelers organization in 2004 working as an intern in the player personnel department.
