Women's Soccer: Titans Still Perfect Defensively After 0-0 Tie Against Carnegie Mellon

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team played to a double-overtime 0-0 tie in non-conference action against a strong Carnegie Mellon team on Wednesday in New Wilmington.

The match-up pitted Carnegie Mellon (1-1-1), a team that has averaged 12 wins during each of the last five years, against a Westminster (2-0-1) team that has won three conference titles in the last four years.

The Titans connected on six shots as the Tartans goalkeeper Alyssa Seifart kept Westminster off the board with six saves. Westminster freshman net-minder Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) kept a clean sheet making 17 saves. Mellott has three shutouts in her first three college matches.

Westminster, which has yet to surrender a goal this season in three games, was strong defensively as the Titans were able to secure the shutout despite the Tartans registering more shots (20-14) and corner kicks (10-0).

Founded in 1852 and related to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Westminster College is ranked among national leaders in graduation rate performance, according to U.S. News Guide to America's Best Colleges, and is one of the most affordable national liberal arts colleges in Pennsylvania. Westminster is also honored as one of "The Best 361 Colleges" and "Best in the Northeast" by The Princeton Review, and was recognized by the Templeton Guide as a "Character Building College."
